How to report an error

If you believe a page on ElyForma contains an error, outdated information, a broken link, unclear wording, or misleading phrasing, we want to hear about it. Clear correction reporting helps us improve the site and keep our content more useful for South African readers.

When reporting an issue, it helps to include:

  • the page title or URL
  • the section where the issue appears
  • a short explanation of what seems wrong
  • the correction you believe is needed, if known
  • any source or supporting reference, if you have one

You do not need to send a perfect legal or technical explanation. A simple, clear note is enough. Even small reports can be useful, especially where the issue affects practical guidance, official references, dates, wording, or user understanding.

What we do when we receive a correction

When we receive a correction report, we review it to understand the issue and decide what kind of update is needed. Some reports involve factual corrections, such as an outdated number, wrong link, incorrect process step, or inaccurate wording. Others involve clarity improvements, such as confusing phrasing, weak explanations, or content that could mislead readers even if it is not strictly false.

Depending on the issue, we may:

  • verify the point against available sources
  • review the wording internally
  • update the page directly
  • add or revise a review note
  • correct a small error without major editorial change
  • make a larger revision if the issue affects the page more broadly

Not every report will lead to an immediate visible change, but every good-faith correction request can help improve the quality of the site.

Timeline for corrections

Correction timing depends on the type of issue.

As a general approach:

  • urgent factual issues are prioritized first
  • broken links, wrong official references, or clearly misleading wording are usually reviewed more quickly
  • small wording fixes may be handled during normal editorial updates
  • broader revisions may take longer if they require a full content review

We aim to act reasonably and responsibly rather than mechanically. Some corrections can be made quickly. Others need checking first so that the fix is actually accurate and useful.
